MAUREEN WELCH GROGAN

Maureen Welch was born in Syracuse on August 1, 1943 to Richard, a reporter with the Post-Standard, and Marie, a homemaker. They lived on Berkley Drive before moving to Fayetteville. She attended Fayetteville Elementary and the Junior/Senior High School. After graduation she attended Rosary Hill College in Buffalo and business school in New York City. She worked for Sun Oil Company, Julius Wile Importers, Northern Telecom and Toshiba. Later she started a career with the New York Power Authority, which culminated in her being the Chief Financial Officer at the Indian Point Nuclear Facility in Ossining. While working for the Power Authority, Maureen graduated from Pace University with a Masters in Corporate Accounting.

Maureen was married in 1978 to William Grogan of Yonkers, NY and was a stepmother to five daughters. She loved life, and shared her free time with her siblings, Charles of Camillus, Sister Madeline of Delaware, Sean of Conn, and Richard of Texas.

When Maureen wasn¡¯t working she would be on the golf course. Once a man saw her tee shot and said, ¡°I see you don¡¯t spend much time in the kitchen¡±.

Maureen was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988. She fought this terrible disease for ten hard years, trying different treatments. She was in remission for a while, but the cancer spread to her brain. She died on September 11, 1998. She was truly loved by everyone whole life she touched. Maureen, we miss you.
