CATHY J. COOK HINTZ

 

Anyone living in the Central New York area knew Cathy J. Cook Hintz by her outgoing and generous nature. Her sense of humor made her a beloved friend and teacher.

 

Born in Providence, RI, Cathy moved to Camillus in 1963, and graduated from West Genesee High School in 1965. With the aspiration of becoming a schoolteacher, she attended SUNY Geneseo and began her career with the Solvay School District immediately after graduation.

 

Cathy was a communicant of Holy Family Church; a member of the Camillus Art Guild, and the Onondaga Historical Society.She participated in many craft shows throughout the area and was well known for her creativity. She enjoyed spending her summer vacations in Nags Head, NC.

 

Cathy was diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer) in 1983 and made a full recovery. However, in 1998 she felt a lump in her breast. A mammogram, and later a biopsy, confirmed a more serious situation. Cathy had breast cancer. She died ion May 21, 2000.

 

Cathy is survived by her husband David and her daughters Katie and Julie; her mother Catherine Cook of Camillus, brothers Don of North Syracuse, and John of Hamilton Square, NJ, and her sister Peg Martin of Onondaga Hill. She was predeceased by her father Donald Cook. Cathy we miss you.
