FLOREEN ELIZABETH STEDMAN-KENYON

 

Born in Syracuse in 1921, Floreen lived her early years on Tennyson Avenue in the section of the city known as Tipperary Hill. She enjoyed her summer vacations staying with friends on Skaneateles Lake. She was a graduate of Vocational High School and Central Business Institute. Upon graduation she was employed by Carrier Corporation in the library.

 

Floreen married Sgt. Norman Stedman in 1945. They raised four children: David of Martinsburg, WV (who said she made the best school lunches), Christine Chapman of Fresno, CA, Gail Michaels of Jamesville and Barbara Rogalia of Skaneateles. Floreen, an avid reader, also took pleasure in taking her children to the beach and on various outings in the Central New York area. She was predeceased by her husband in 1966 when he passed away at the age of 47.

 

While raising her children Floreen worked at Van Duyn Home and Hospital from 1960 until she retired in 1980. She married Lyle Kenyon in 1973. They were peacefully retired until she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985. She had a mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiation treatments. There was no cure for Floreen. She died on September 22, 1989.

 

Floreen¡¯s second husband died in 1993. She is survived by her four children and nine grandchildren: Jason Stedman of St. Petersburg, FL; Erin and Sean Chapman of Fresno, CA; Jessica Michaels of Breckenridge, CO; Lesley Michaels of Atlanta, GA; Larry, Jr. and Michelle Michaels of Jamesville; Benjamin and her namesake, Elizabeth Floreen Rogalio of Skaneateles. Floreen, we miss you.
