The Grants

Each year, two to three $50,000 grants are awarded by the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund (CMBBCRF). All grants are provided specifically to researchers in Central New York and specifically for the purpose of breast cancer research.

Each $50,000 grant is named in honor of someone from Central New York who lost their fight against breast cancer. The purpose of the grants is to fund preliminary medical explorations to determine whether a particular breast cancer research theory has merit. Results from promising studies funded by the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund are used to apply for funding of large-scale research studies.

Nearly 40,480 women and 450 men will die of breast cancer this year in the U.S.

Annually, 13,800 women in New York State are diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 3,000 in the state die each year from the disease.

For women 40 to 55, breast cancer is the most common cause of death.

Breast cancer is the most common non-skin cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women world-wide.
