In addition to the events that are sponsored directly by the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, many local organizations have created their own fundraisers and donate the proceeds to the Fund. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, many of these fundraisers take place during October.

 

 

Art for the Cure

 

The first annual Art for the Cure was held by Margo and Roger Spain, owners of the Wayside Inn in Elbridge on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009. In addition to cocktails and hors d¡¯ouevres, Whitney Barnes and John Conroy, two local artists, displayed and sold their work. The proceeds from ticket sales and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of artwork were donated to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund.

 

 

Beacon Federal

 

During the month of October, Beacon Federal in East Syracuse will be giving out breast cancer awareness rubber band bracelets and offering a tear off for donations to the Fund.

 

 

Dancing Kats Fitness Studio

 

During October, a portion of the proceeds from the Dancing Kats Fitness Studio Zumba class in North Syracuse will be donated to the Fund.

 

 

Daughters of Wynetta E. Scott Bowling Tournament at King Pin Bowling

The daughters of Wynetta E. Scott, a native of Utica and victim of breast cancer, have organized a bowling tournament that is held at King Pin Bowling in Rome, NY each year. This event is held during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the proceeds are donated to the Fund.

 

 

Fayetteville-Manlius Boy's Basketball Pinkout

 

This event was created by the Boy's Basketball team at FM to raise awareness of breast cancer. Purchase a breast cancer awareness t-shirt from the Fayetteville-Manlius Boy's Basketball team and admission to the game against Corcoran on February 12, 2010 at 7 p.m. at F-M High School will be free. Members of the basketball team will wear Pink Out shirts as they warm up for the game. Both teams will wear pink ribbons during the game. Proceeds will be donated to the Fund.

 

 

 

Parking for Breast Cancer

 

In honor of Patricia Covey who lost her struggle with breast cancer, the Ballweg and Lunsford funeral home offered parking in their lot during the Apple Festival in Lafayette. Individuals that parked in the lot were asked to make a donation towards the Fund. A merchandise booth was also set up on their property during the two-day event.

 

 

Save the Peaks


On February 20, 2010 the first annual Save the Peaks event will be held at Labrador Mountain. This event will consist of a breast cancer survivor ski race. There will also be many celebrities from local radio and television stations participating at this event.

 

 

Thunderbird Lanes Bowling Tournament

 

Each year, Thunderbird Lanes in Baldwinsville, NY holds a bowling tournament. Proceeds from the tournament are donated to the fund.

 

 

PGA at The Turning Stone Casino

 

Each year during the PGA Tour at the Turning Stone, PGA tickets are given to the Fund. Any ticket sales made by the Fund are donated back to them through the Upstate New York Empowerment Fund together with the Oneida Nation.

 

In addition, this year during the PGA Tour there was a ¡°Pink Out¡± during the PGA. On October 1st, eighteen cancer survivors were honored by the Turning Stone. Many of the PGA participants dressed in pink to demonstrate their awareness.

 

Tully Girls Lacrosse

 

Each year in May, the Tully Girl¡¯s Lacrosse team dedicates a game to raise funds for the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. In addition to the game there is a chicken barbeque, Doug¡¯s Fish Fry, Nice and Easy pizza, a bake sale and raffle.

 

 

Let's Bottle Breast Cancer

 

During the month of October, Up to 8 Cents Off Bottle & Can Redemption Centers are donating a portion of the proceeds to the Carol M Baldwin Breast Research Fund. Employees will be wearing pink T-Shirts in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Up to 8 Cents Off Bottle & Can has eight locations: (2) of them in Syracuse, Genesee St in Chittenango, Fayette St in Manlius, on Onondaga Hill on West Seneca Turnpike and Cedar Vale Rd, and on Salina St in Greenhills Plaza.
